1 Samuel 3 v 1-21 The Calling of Samuel

Do we hear the call of God? The voice
of our Lord that speaks out our name, waiting for us to hear. Verse 7 says,
"Now
Samuel did not yet know the LORD" - it
was the first time he had heard the Lord call his name. But once it was pointed
out to him that this was the voice of God, Samuel responded, listened and did
amazing things for his Lord.
Do we recognise the voice of God in
our lives, when we read the Bible, when we pray, when we live moment by moment
with Jesus by our side? In the bustle, busy-ness, relentless noise of our world
and life, do we miss the small call of our name, the Holy Spirit nudging at our
heart to listen to him? Listen carefully today - you might be missing the most
important thing because of the crowding in of all that clamours for our
attention.
Merciful Lord,
absolve your people from their offences,
that through your bountiful goodness
we may all be delivered from the chains of those sins
which by our frailty we have committed;
grant this, heavenly Father,
for Jesus Christ's sake, our blessed Lord and Saviour.

It is reassuring to read how God, in His patience, called Samuel more than once and waited for him to respond. When I am seeking to understand what God would have me do in a specific situation it is good to know that as long as I am seeking with a sincere heart, God will be patient witb me too
