Day 34 Mark 1 v 1-13 John the Baptist

Mark 1 v 1-13 John the Baptist
(Click the link to get to the passage)

What an amazing privilege it must have been to be able to pave the way for The Lord Jesus. To be the voice in the wilderness, to prepare the way for the coming Messiah. The one who had kicked in his mother's womb when his cousin came near was now meeting him at the beginning of his ministry. How his heart must have burned in his chest as he heard the words from heaven, "you are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased," and saw the Holy Spirit descending like a dove. John would fade and end up in prison as Jesus would move to centre stage. He would ultimately be killed for standing up for what was right.

John is an inspiration in his dedication to God. Pray today that we would have the tenacity to stand up for what is right and to continually point others to Jesus. May we never take the glory that belongs to him.

Most merciful God,
who by the death and resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ
delivered and saved the world:
grant that by faith in him who suffered on the cross
we may triumph in the power of his victory;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
