Job 42 v 1-17 Job
(Click the link to get to the passage)
The book of Job is never easy to
understand; the question of why it happens to him is never answered. Job never
buckles in his belief and trust in God, even through the unhelpful
contributions of his friends. It is inspiring and challenging to see that for
Job, the presence of God was enough. In the face of God, his questions faded in
the wonder of his Lord. "My ears had heard of you but now my eyes have seen you.
Therefore
I despise myself and repent in dust and
ashes.”
When we face situations that make us
ask where God is, it is refreshing to read of Job who lost everything yet
remained faithful to God. Sometimes we will never get an answer to
"why...?" - but need to rest in the presence of God as our solace.
Whatever your situation today, take
time to rest in God. Maybe a moment during lunch break, or in the car on the
way home. Allow your questions to fade as you enjoy for a moment the empowering
presence of God speaking loudly in your consciousness. Whatever you are facing take time
today to renew your trust in the Lord and, through that, to know his peace.
Merciful Lord,
absolve your people from their offences,
that through your bountiful goodness
we may all be delivered from the chains of those sins
which by our frailty we have committed;
grant this, heavenly Father,
for Jesus Christ's sake, our blessed Lord and Saviour.
