Day 11 - Peter Denies Jesus

Matthew 26 v 69-75 Peter Denies Jesus
(Use the link above to get to the passage)

This is probably Peter's lowest moment. After spending 3 years following Jesus, learning from him and serving him, he now disowns him, just when Jesus needs him most. Peter is given 3 opportunities by 3 different people to acknowledge that he knows Jesus, yet, each time, fear holds him back.
We can all think of times when we have ignored Jesus, perhaps because we feared publishing our relationship with him, or felt it would damage our reputation.  It is comforting to know that Jesus reinstates Peter, despite his very public denial of him - he will reinstate us no matter how many times we deny him.

Are there times in the past for which you need to ask Jesus' forgiveness? Look out for opportunities today where you have a chance to acknowledge him to other people.

God our Father,
in your love and goodness
you have taught us to come
close to you in penitence
with prayer, fasting and generosity;
accept our Lenten discipline,
and when we fall by our weakness,
raise us up by your unfailing mercy;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
